such a production it would make quincy jones shed a tear. all night and walk with me are a milkshake of flavors from the  late 80s early 90s disco funk era fused with a modern day, top-notch production. these tunes are nothing short of magic. what better way to describe a tune brought to light for me by the magician, on his magic mixtape six. get involved!

over the past few months, lithuania’s mario basanov has been laying down some quality original and remix tracks, but nothing strikes quite like his remix of  kaine‘s love saves the day, featuring disco singer-songwriter kathy diamond (known best for her past work with aeroplane, toby tobias, etc). i hate comparing artists but i can’t help but contrast the production of this tune with an airy balearic, tensnake-esque vibe from this track.

mario’s remix work keeps pointing to the fact that nobody envelopes this sound better than him — from the acute funky basslining to his bright and audibly colorful chord choices. this is one of those gems that tend to make good use of large sound systems… needs to be played loud to be fully appreciated. buy this while you’re at it, cause you’ll need it as every repeat gets dangerously louder.

axxe are somewhat new to the scene, having been together for only about a year now. however, they broke ground strong with their new 2-track ep including remixes by worship and neon workout. the neon workout remix really conjures up authentic italo disco feelings, thanks to the bassline and other noticeable undertones. watch out for more axxe in the future!

hailing from the uk is miguel campbell. the authoritative voice of funk out in leeds, alongside production partner matt hughes. combined, they make mam. miguel is no stranger to solo production. he runs his own label (outcross records) and has a special something when it comes to legit disco edits and sampling! here are two tracks he was kind enough to send our way

mysterious vybes is the bonus track off of matt’s “funk theory” ep. if there ever were a theme for nightdriving in a vintage porsche under a full moon in miami, this is it. kiss and tell is more upbeat and provides snappy funk in the classic definition of french house.  i happen to really love the way miguel drops out the kick at unexpected times in this one. make sure to provide adequate love

lined with threads of dreamwave, french house, and a touch of trance, ‘love gemma’ brings out all the spacey emotions you would expect from a star-painted title image like pictured above. make sure check out his other work on myspace – he seems to have a variety of sounds, with more on the way

if you haven’t noticed by now, there’s been a disco/funk revolution goin on this year. one of the most consistent groups leading the pack is crazy penis aka the more politically correct “crazy p,” who have been in the game for about 14 years now. starting out with only two people who met at university, the group now consists of chris todd, jim baron, tim davies, matt klose, and vocalist danielle moore.

did i mention that crazy p is a live funk band? they are. “live funk band” can also be pronounced as “awesome!” czech out one of their latest releases, “the hit.”

starting out with a cool vocoder piece and a james brown inspired “hit it!” we get some light funky bits before it drops down and danielle starts singing in her chilled out style. of course, the beat drops back in with full pimp-walk funk.

hit these mother funkers up on myspace and check out the whole “work don’t work ep” release on beatport, which includes a remix by inland knights and the track “freak control!”

This track has a very unique sound for his label’s catalogue. Whereas a lot of the earlier stuff had a more underground feel, “Casual Encounters” is super upbeat and bouncy.

These jackin beats and great filters with really cool vocal samples will get da party poppin off fa sho!

Let’s hope he puts out more tracks like this in the future.

continuing on our current roll of hot tunes, i’ll be hyping “monstr” who were kind enough to send a few tracks our way.
the two guys that make up monstr met at school in 1983 due to their love of the electro pop coming out at that time. this love has obviously carried with them through to today!

in particular, their remix of unique 3‘s “take this love” is exceptionally good. in contrast to a lot of the electro out there right now, monstr focuses more on the nostalgic style and sounds here. this one starts off with a sort of doppler effect sweep which reminds me of a great start for an 80s music video, perhaps a delorean blasting down a future city street! soon after that, we’re introduced to some great chimes. this tune is definitely meant to work on the dancefoor, emphasized by the huge bass and nicely situated vocals. try and get that bass pattern out of your head! during the break we get a nice taste of some modern electro sound with a gliding lead panning around while the bass does its thing.
