French pop rock band Phoenix will be releasing their 4ourth album worldwide the 25th of March, titled Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.  The album is mixed again by Philippe Zdar who mixed Phoenix’s debut studio album, United.  The band’s offering a free advance track from the album as a free taster through their official phoenix website, titled “1901″ it makes me drool.  Cant wait to get my hands on this.  Take note to the mp3 tag in the comments. It reads:  “Looking forward the Colosseum”

Another one to get your hands on in March is 4our years in the making.  Royksopp’s new album is finally on its way, and they are truly Norway’s finest.  This is also Royksopp’s 4ourth album, named ‘Junior’ will release on March 23rd and is a must have.

Here’s a dope remix of Royksopp’s ‘Happy UP Here’ by one of my favorite Parisian re mixers/producers Breakbot.

Yacht rock, and music that sounds all ‘yachty’ is all the rage these days… maybe we’re going a little away from what we usually post up in here but this shit really does deserves some attention.

So sometime starting in like 2005 a series of comedy shorts were started simply called “Yacht Rock”. The shorts parody how super smooth southern Cali musicians crafted some of their greatest soft rock hits in the late 1970s and early 80′s, pouring heavy emphasis on how over bred their sound really was (Toto, Hall and Oats, Christopher Cross etc.).  Super funny, these shorts coined the term ‘yacht rock’. Now I suspect if you’ve been living on the moon in a cave for some time you’ve never seen them… Basically everyone knows and loves the videos, and I believe this has triggered some kind weird revival. Almost 30 years later, this sound is really taking off again in all new directions. The term ‘Yacht’ is becoming  more of a genre now than some douche-bag’s boat.

french indie label kitsune recordings releases the 6th edition of their kitsune maison. it is a collection of melodic tunes composed by international artists big to small. you may find a handful of these tunes to be your average run of the mill recycled sounding tunes, but one tune hooked me bad. in my opinion (and obviously theirs as its the first tune in their myspace player) this bomb is the sureshot forerunner of the whole package.

just discovering the swedish duo, Lo-Fi-Fnk, i think i’m liking what i’m hearing. they fuse that 80s touch with that garageband feel. rich elements of synthesizers together with some chunky basslining gave them the right to claim their own sound on this release.
